Five Guys | Extranet

The Client

Five Guys Burgers and Fries started in 1986 as a small family owned restaurant with a simple menu, serving fresh burgers and fries. They have since gained a large and loyal cult following in the Washington DC area, and have expanded the business through franchising. There are now over 87 Five Guys restaurants spread across North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Maryland and Virginia, and plans to expand to over 1000 stores in the next two to three years.

The Challenge

With such a rapidly growing business, the owners of Five Guys recognized that they had to build a communication infrastructure to keep up with the disparate franchise owners and employees. They wanted to be able to effectively disseminate information about company policies and exciting company news and events. They also wanted to facilitate communication and sharing of ideas between franchise owners regardless of their geographic location.

The Solution

Segue Technologies collaborated with Five Guys to design a corporate extranet that would connect and unify a rapidly growing business that is now spread across many states. The extranet has multiple levels of access and security to enable certain types of information to be visible only to the proper audience (corporate employees, franchise owners, franchise employees). Other components of the extranet include:

  • Alerts, for the broadcast of urgent messages
  • Featured news articles
  • Message board for exchange of ideas
  • Company directory
  • Document repository for display of company policies, etc.
  • Adminstrative tools
