The Client
NGB/J-5 assists the Chief, National Guard Bureau (CNGB) with developing, promulgating and implementing policy, plans, concepts, and strategy for the National Guard/National Guard Bureau.
The Challenge
NGB analysts previously used spreadsheets, word documents, and three-ringed binders to perform budgeting, programming, and analytic support for the office. These antiquated business tools exacerbated the man-hours needed to perform daily tasks. Segue Technologies was called upon to not only help the NGB modernize its business process, but also to provide their analysts with tools to analyze data in ways not possible in their existing environment. They needed a system that would track the budget for all of NGB J-5 – items such as Active Duty for Special Work (ADSW), contractor services, IMPAC card purchases, training, and travel expenses. The system also had to allow analysts the opportunity to perform data mining on key NGB-related metrics.
The Solution
Segue Technologies spent hundreds of hours working with NGB personnel, analyzing extremely complex spreadsheets in an effort to replace them with efficient Client-Server Relational Database Systems. Segue Technologies also developed ‘Budget Track’ – the first system of its kind in the NGB. Segue Technologies was able to successfully implement Budget Track on-site on an accelerated time schedule (less than 3 months). This implementation has been well received by the NGB and is considered to be a resounding success. Segue Technologies provided such outstanding functional support during the initial design and development of the budget tracking system that the NGB awarded a follow on contract to provide fulltime analysis support.
