Gates Millennium Scholars Program

About the Client

The UNCF Gates Millennium Scholarship Program was established in 1999 via a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, to promote academic excellence and provide an opportunity for outstanding minority students to reach their highest potential. The GMS program is more than just a scholarship, it offers ACademic Empowerment (ACE) services to encourage academic excellence; mentoring services for academic and personal development; and an online resource center that provides internship, fellowship and scholarship information. The GMS Program is administered by the United Negro College Fund (UNCF).

The Challenge

The GMS program relies heavily upon their web presence to carry out their mission. They needed an agile, responsive, and highly capable application support team to ensure continual operations of the GMS scholarship application through which they conduct the application and award process for 1,000 students each year. Critical improvements were necessary for stability, reliability, security, and workflow efficiency.

The Solution

Segue provides GMSP with Application Development and Maintenance services for the GMSP web-based scholarship application system and its associated application architecture. In addition, Segue is conducting a development effort for the creation of a new GMSP Enterprise scholarship submission and tracking system. Segue is replacing the existing systems that facilitate the GMSP application process and creating a foundation to integrate future scholarship programs. The Segue system will provide operational efficiency, data security and integrity, and the ability to adapt to emergent technologies such as mobile devices.
